Athletes of the Week: Jan. 6-12

LANCASTER, Pa. -- A trio of Centennial Conference student-athletes secured weekly honors for performances during the week of Jan. 6-12, 2025, the conference announced on Tuesday morning. 

Kevin Nowoswiat of Franklin & Marshall men's basketball became the second multi-time weekly award winner of the season, while Chinwe Irondi of Ursinus women's basketball and Thomas Monn of McDaniel wrestling earned weekly honors for the first time this year.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Kevin Nowoswiat, Jr., G, Franklin & Marshall
West Chester, Pa. | Unionville 
Nowoswiat averaged 22.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 59.4% from the floor and 80% from the free throw line in wins over Hamilton and McDaniel last week. In Tuesday's win against Hamilton, he totaled 18 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal, shooting 7-of-13 on field goals with two three pointers. In Saturday's win over McDaniel, he totaled 27 points, nine rebounds, and season-high five assists, shooting 12-of-19 on field goals. It marked his sixth game of 20-plus points this season.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Athlete of the Week
Chinwe Irondi, Sr., F, Ursinus
Waldorf, Md. | St. Mary's Ryken
Irondi averaged 22.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 66.7% from the field to lead Ursinus to a perfect week behind Centennial victories over Washington College and Muhlenberg. She opened with 26 points (13-of-18 FG) and 12 rebounds during a 78-56 victory over Muhlenberg on Wednesday. That performance marked her seventh-straight contest with at least 20 points and her seventh double-double of the season. On Saturday, Irondi sparked a Bears' comeback victory over Washington College with19 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. She currently leads the conference and ranks top-20 in the NCAA in points per game (21.4, 17th in DIII) and field goal percentage (61.3%, 5th in DIII).

Athlete of the Week
Thomas Monn, Jr., 149, McDaniel
Hagerstown, Md. | Washington Tech
Monn went 5-0 last week at the Budd Whitehill National Duals hosted by Lycoming. He earned bonus points in all five matches, totaling two falls, two tech falls and one major decision in bouts against Stevens, Springfield, Lycoming, York (Pa.) and SUNY Oswego. Ranked 10th nationally and first in Region 3 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, Monn posted a 15-4 major decision over Carmen Cortese of 18th-ranked Stevens. Cortese is ranked fourth in Region 2 at 149 pounds.
