Athletes of the Week: Jan. 5-11

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference weekly awards have been announced for the week of Jan. 5-11 in basketball and wrestling. 

Ursinus swept this week's awards as Jamie Murphy of men's basketball, Ava Possenti of women's basketball and Braden Kmak of wrestling earned weekly accolades. Kmak becomes the first CC wrestler to win mutliple honors this season, while Murphy and Possenti both collected CC awards for the first time this year.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Jamie Murphy, So., G, Ursinus
Rockville Centre, N.Y. | South Side 
Murphy was sensational in the Bears 19-point comeback against Washington College on Saturday. Murphy scored a career-high 25 points on 67% shooting (10-for-15), while also contributing eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Ursinus shot 73% from the field in the second half to outscore the Shoremen 55-35 after trailing 52-40 at the halftime break.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Ava Possenti, Sr., G, Ursinus 
Garnet Valley, Pa. | Garnet Valley 
Possenti led Ursinus to a perfect 3-0 record behind averages of 20.3 points, 7.0 steals, 5.7 rebounds and 3.0 three-pointers per contest in victories over Penn State Brandywine, Muhlenberg, and Washington College. She shot a blistering 60% (9-for-15) from three-point land and 59% from the floor (23-for-39). On Wednesday against Muhlenberg, Possenti set a new career-high with 24-point, 10-steal double-double in the Bears' 81-37 road victory. She followed up by resetting her career best with 28 points, six rebounds, and five steals in the Bears' road victory over Washington College on Saturday. She scored 13 of her 28 points in the fourth quarter to give Ursinus the comeback victory.  Possenti ranks third in Division III in steals (58) and steals per contest (4.83).

WRESTLING 

Athlete of the Week
Braden Kmak, Jr., 157, Ursinus
Hazlet, N.J. | Raritan 
Kmak led the Bears this weekend at the Manganaro Duals, finishing with a perfect 4-0 record behind three pins and a technical fall. He opened with a first-period fall against Roger William's Johnathan Fabrizio, before pinning Adam St. Cyr of Southern Maine. Next, Kmak collected a 19-3 tech fall over Alvernia's Vitalo and closed out the tournament with a fall at the 1:25 mark against Rhode Island College to lead Ursinus to a 3-1 meet record.
