Athletes of the Week: Nov. 3-9

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference weekly awards have been announced for the week of Nov. 3-9 in volleyball, basketball, swimming, and wrestling. This marks the final weekly awards of the year for volleyball and the first of the year for men's and women's basketball. 

Ken Lee of Johns Hopkins women's swimming leads this week's honorees following a pair of conference-record-breaking performances last week. Simone Adam of Johns Hopkins volleyball also earned weekly awards for the third time this year.

VOLLEYBALL

Offensive Player of the Week

Simone Adam, Sr., OH, Johns Hopkins 
Menlo Park, Calif. | Menlo School 
Adam powered the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week to close out the regular season and secure the No. 1 seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament, including wins over Gettysburg and Muhlenberg. Across seven sets, the senior totaled 29 kills on a .354 hitting percentage and one ace to go along with seven blocks and 18 digs. Against the Bullets, Adam tallied 14 kills and one ace, along with four blocks and 12 digs. In the straight-set win over the Mules, she registered a team-high 15 kills on an incredible .452 hitting percentage, three blocks and six digs. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Kira Chaney, Jr., DS/L, Haverford 
Highlands Ranch, Colo. | ThunderRidge
Chaney anchored the Haverford with 51 digs (5.67 per set) as the Fords went 3-0 in their final stretch of regular-season play, securing the No. 3 seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament. In a pivotal rivalry match against Swarthmore on Wednesday, Chaney matched her career-high with 29 digs to help Haverford sweep the Garnet. After contributing seven digs against York in the opening match of the York tri-match, she added 15 more in a 3-1 win over Misericordia. The junior also totaled 10 assists across the three matches.

Charlie Jackson, Sr., G, Johns Hopkins
Arlington, Va. | Episcopal 
Jackson led Johns Hopkins to a 76-67 win over Marymount in the season opener Friday night. He scored a game-high 24 points, one shy of his career high. He also grabbed six rebounds, handed out three assists, blocked a shot and grabbed four steals.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Raegan Lenz, Jr., F, McDaniel
Earleville, Md. | Bohemia Manor
Lenz led McDaniel to its third consecutive Rebecca Martin Memorial Tip-Off Tournament this past weekend with a 58-45 victory over Misericordia and a 63-43 win over Stevenson. She was named Most Valuable Player after averaging 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 5.0 blocks. She totaled 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and seven blocks in the championship game.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Cami Wilson, Sr., Swarthmore 
Birmingham, Mich. | International Academy 
Wilson had a standout weekend for Swarthmore, earning a pair of top-three individual finishes at the D3 Shootout in Chicago. The senior took second in the 100 butterfly, posting an NCAA B-cut time of 47.93. He also touched third in the 50 freestyle (20.64). Wilson holds the nation's second-fastest time in the 100 fly and tenth-fastest in the 50 free.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Ken Lee, So., Johns Hopkins 
Cloverdale, Calif. | Maria Carrillo
Lee broke a pair of school and conference records and won two individual events in Hopkins' dual meet versus Georgetown. Lee swept the backstroke events, breaking the pool record in both events. They won the 100 in 55.81, breaking the previous CC record by .47 seconds. Lee then won the 200 with a record swim of 2:00.24, besting a 21-year-old CC record of 2:00.85 that was held by F&M's Krystle Satrium. Lee also swam on the 400 medley relay that finished second in 3:47.88. That time was under the previous pool record, but was also broken by the first-place Hoyas. Lee's times both rank among the best in Division, with the 200 time leading the nation and the 100 time ranking third.

WRESTLING 

Athlete of the Week
Branden Whyte-Taylor, Fr., 133, McDaniel
Annapolis, Md. | Broadneck
Whyte-Taylor trailed 13-0 against senior and regionally-ranked Corey Cope before posting his fourth career win and fourth fall in 3:25 as McDaniel went on to upset No. 12 Elizabethtown, 24-22. Cope is ranked fourth in Region 3.
