Athletes of the Week: Oct. 27-Nov. 2

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference weekly awards have been announced for the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 2 in field hockey, soccer, volleyball, swimming, and wrestling. 

This marks the final weekly awards of the year for field hockey and soccer, and the first wrestling honors of 2025-26. Volleyball has one more week of regular season play remaining, while basketball will tip-off its season this coming weekend. 

Caitlin Hoover of F&M field hockey once again leads the weekly honorees with her fourth Offensive Player of the Week award of the year. John Ghanem of Johns Hopkins men's soccer repeated as Defensive Player of the Week, while Fiona Moord of Haverford volleyball secured weekly honors for the second time this season.

FIELD HOCKEY

Offensive Player of the Week
Caitlin Hoover, Jr., F, Franklin & Marshall 

Blue Bell, Pa. | The Lawrenceville School (N.J.)
Hoover secured Centennial weekly honors for the fourth time this season after being involved in all four goals scored in road wins over Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore as the Diplomats secured the No. 2 seed and a first round bye in the CC tournament. In total, she registered five points on one goal and three assists. She assisted both of F&M's goals in a 2-0 win over Bryn Mawr on Tuesday. In Saturday's 2-1 win at Swarthmore, she assisted F&M's opening goal before providing a needed insurance goal on a penalty stroke.

Defensive Player of the Week
Ada Farmer, So., D, Johns Hopkins
Pfafftown, N.C. | R.J. Reynolds
Farmer led the Johns Hopkins' defense to a pair of shutout wins to wrap up the regular season with an undefeated conference record. She led a defense that allowed just one total shot (not on target) and no corners in a 3-0 win at Gettysburg. In the regular season finale, Farmer and the Blue Jay defense surrendered only two shots, only one on goal, and five penalty corners in a 6-0 win over Muhlenberg.

Cowan led the Bullets to a 4-0 win over Washington in the season finale and to the No. 2 seed in next week's conference tournament. The freshman recorded a goal and an assist on the night.

Defensive Player of the Week

Orlando, Fla. | Lake Highland Prep
Ghanem repeated as Defensive Player of the Week after finishing with six saves to back-stop Johns Hopkins' to a crucial 1-0 win at Ursinus on Friday night in the regular season finale. The win was his fourth shutout of the season and secured the Blue Jays a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament.

Offensive Player of the Week

Irene Sanchez Burgueno, So., F, Johns Hopkins 
North Bethesda, Md. | Walter Johnson
Sanchez Burgueno helped Johns Hopkins to a pair of wins that helped the Blue Jays lock up the number two seed in this week's Centennial Conference Tournament. She scored once in a 2-0 win against Dickinson and then added one goal and one assist in a 2-0 win at Ursinus in the final game of the regular season. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Lily Buyer, Sr., GK, Haverford 
New York, N.Y. | The Clinton School 
Buyer recorded a career-high 12 saves in her final performance for the Fords, helping Haverford earn a 0-0 draw against 13th-ranked Swarthmore. The result marked the first time this season that the Garnet failed to win a conference match. In the hard-fought draw, Buyer secured her first shutout of the season to cap off her career.

VOLLEYBALL

Offensive Player of the Week

Christina Marcin, Sr., OH, Muhlenberg
Wilmington, Del. | Charter School of Wilmington
Marcin averaged 4.88 kills and 2.13 digs per set and hit .319% in a 1-1 week for the Mules. In a win against McDaniel, Marcin tied her career high with 25 kills - the most by a CC player in a four-set match this season. Of the 25 kills, 14 came in the third and fourth sets, leading Muhlenberg to 25-22 wins in both. She added 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Marcin finished with 14 kills, including the 900th of her career, in a four-set loss at Dickinson. She also recorded five assists, three aces, and a block in the two matches.

Defensive Player of the Week
Fiona Moord, So., MB, Haverford 
Maple City, Mich. | Leland Public School 
Moord played a pivotal defensive role in a 2-0 week for the Fords, which included handing seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins its first Centennial Conference loss of the season. She totaled 11 blocks (1.57 per set) and three digs across the two matches. After posting two blocks and two digs in a 3-0 sweep over Bryn Mawr, the sophomore delivered a dominant performance on Saturday, recording a game-high nine blocks and one dig in the 3-1 victory over the No. 7 Blue Jays. The upset win clinched Haverford’s third consecutive playoff berth. Following the standout week, Moord still sits at the top of the CC with 98 total blocks.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Evan Graham, So., Gettysburg
Crofton, Md. | The Key School 
Graham led the Bullets to a pair of lopsided victories over Franklin & Marshall and Scranton. Against the Diplomats on Friday, he led off the 200 medley relay to a time of 1:31.96, which is the No. 8 time in program history. Later in the night, he nearly reset a 13-year-old Bullets Pool record with a win in the 400 IM. His time of 3:58.33 is the fastest in Division III and is the only sub-4:00 mark in the early season for an NCAA B-Cut time. He also anchored the fastest 400 free relay time of the night (3:11.65). On Saturday, he notched a pair of Scranton pool records. He anchored the 400 medley relay to a time of 3:30.04 as well as grabbing an individual record in the 100 backstroke with his time of 51.07 seconds.Graham also won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:17.42.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week

McKenzie led the Bullets to a pair of dual wins over Franklin & Marshall and Scranton over the weekend, recording five victories in six races over the two day.s She led off the 200 medley relay against F&M on Friday, joining Maya Knoller, Bramley Hawkins and Valerie Lawton to post a time of 1:43.95. The time is second all-time in program history, just 0.7 seconds off the program record. Later in the night, she reset the program record in the 100 backstroke with an NCAA B-cut time of 56.47 seconds, which is currently the top time in the event in Division III. She also finished second in the 50 free (24.34 seconds). On Saturday, she claimed individual wins in the 200 free (1:58.52) and 200 breaststroke (2:30.31) while also joining Lawton, Hawkins and Caitlyn Evans to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:39.51.

WRESTLING 

Athlete of the Week
Andrew Schaen, Jr., 141, Ursinus
Harbeson, Del. | Cape Henlopen
Schaen went a perfect 5-0 en route to the individual title in the 141-pound weight class at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday. He opened with a 10-1 major decision over Johns Hopkins' Max Apsel before defeating Arcadia's Braxton Stewart by fall at the 4:37 mark. Schaen followed with a 17-1 technical fall over Brockport's Tanner King and a 15-10 decision over Brockport's Jaden Friel to reach the finals. Against Messiah's Shaun Quirk, who is ranked No. 14 nationally, Schaen used a trio of takedowns and an escape in the final stanza to earn a 14-13 victory.
