Athletes of the Week: Jan. 13-19

LANCASTER, Pa. -- All seven Centennial Conference winter sports are now back in action as a number of Centennial swimming and indoor track & field teams returned to competition last week. 

Cami Wilson of Swarthmore men's swimming, Carl Schaller of Gettysburg men's basketball, and Macie Feldman of Johns Hopkins women's basketball each earned the honor for at least the second time to lead this week's group of honorees.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Carl Schaller, Sr., G, Gettysburg
Garnet Valley, Pa. | Garnet Valley 
Schaller led the Bullets to a pair of key road conference wins last week, averaging 22.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He scored 20 points in a 74-72 win at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday, adding four rebounds, three assists and two steals. He keyed a 100-88 win at Ursinus on Saturday with 25 points that included the first 10 points of the second half. He hit five 3-pointers on the day. For the week, he shot 57.7% from the floor, hitting 15 of 26 shots. He also went 8-for-13 from long range (61.5%).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Macie Feldman, Jr., G, Johns Hopkins
Southgate, Ky. | Notre Dame Academy
Feldman led the Blue Jays to a 3-0 week with a win at Mary Washington and home victories against Mount Aloysius and Franklin & Marshall. She scored in double figures in all three games and averaged 11.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.3 steals in the three wins. In a 79-42 victory against F&M, she punched up the third triple-double in program history with a 15-point, 12-rebound, 10-assist effort.  The triple-double was also the 15th in the history of the Centennial Conference.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Cami Wilson, Jr., Swarthmore

Wilson recorded a pair of individual victories and was on a winning relay in the Garnet's meet against No. 11 Johns Hopkins. Wilson was victorious in the 100 butterfly with a NCAA B-cut time of 48.56. It was the third time this year that Wilson eclipsed the NCAA B-cut standard in the event. Wilson also touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle (20.65). Wilson swam the second leg of Swarthmore's 200 freestyle relay and helped the group place first with a time of 1:23.39, good for eighth-best in program history. Swarthmore also recorded a top-10 mark in the 200 medley relay as Wilson swam the third leg and the Garnet clocked in at 1:30.78 for second place. That time sits fifth all-time in the program record book.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Annaliese Chen, Sr., Swarthmore

Chen earned two individual wins and a runner-up finish to lead the No. 13 Garnet to a 170-92 victory over No. 10 Johns Hopkins. It was Swarthmore's first victory against the Blue Jays, a perennial national contender, since 1996. The triumph also marked the Garnet's 36th consecutive dual-meet win. Chen swam a NCAA B-cut time of 2:03.90 for first place in the 200 butterfly. She also won the 100 butterfly in a Ware Pool-record time of 56.39, which ranks sixth-best in program history and ninth-best in conference history. Chen finished second (2:08.28) in the 200 IM and swam on Swarthmore's 200 medley B relay that took third (1:46.23).

WRESTLING

Athlete of the Week
Mohamed Abdelatty, So., 285, Ursinus
Lawrence, N.J. | Lawrence
Abdelatty won the 285-pound weight class at the Will Abele Invitational, highlighted by a victory over the 14th-ranked wrestler in Division II in the title bout.  Abdelatty recorded back-to-back victories by fall to open the tournament as he pinned Camden's Garrett Gayle at the 44-second mark and Wesleyan's Will Orso at the 2:32-mark to reach the semifinals. He matched against teammate Samuel Rock III (Ranked 5th in Region 2) in the semifinals and earned a 4-2 decision. In the finals, Abdelatty tallied four takedowns en route to a 19-10 major decision over NCAA D2 National Qualifier and nationally ranked No. 14, East Stroudburg's Layton Schmick.

Track Athlete of the Week

Richwine raced to the 11th-fastest time in Division III in the 800 meters at the Catholic Invitational on Saturday. Richwine won the 800 with a time of 1:55.71.

Field Athlete of the Week
Mitchell Davis, Fr., Ursinus 
Bethlehem, Pa. | Saucon Valley 
Davis set the Bears indoor school record in the pole vault with a winning mark of 4.80 meters on Sunday at the Collegeville Classic. Davis topped the previous mark of 4.71 meters set by Brody Myers during the 2021-22 season after nearly topping it in December with his debut mark of 4.70. Davis is yarding the Centennial Conference now by .50 meters and now sits ninth overall in all of Division III. The mark also ranks third all-time in Centennial history.

Track Athlete of the Week
Distance Medley Relay, Johns Hopkins
The Blue Jay Distance Medley Relay Team of Harrinee Senthilkumar, Lily Tremba, Emily Roskowski and Mackenzie Setton crossed the line in first place at the Catholic Invitational with a time of 12:13.20. The mark currently ranks as the top time in the nation this season.

Field Athlete of the Week
Sara Bartlett, Sr., Johns Hopkins
White Plains, N.Y. | Valhalla
Bartlett led the Blue Jays at the Catholic Invitational with first-place finishes in the triple jump (11.81-meters) and long jump (5.16-meters).  Her mark in the triple jump currently ranks sixth in the nation this season.
