Athletes of the Week: Apr. 22-28

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The final Centennial Conference weekly awards of the 2024 spring campaign have been awarded in baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis and outdoor track & field. Champions will be crowned in each of those sports this weekend. 

Sophia Cicchetti of Muhlenberg softball, Paige Forry of Gettysburg softball, Mia Salvatierra of Washington College women's lacrosse, Annie Huang of Johns Hopkins women's outdoor track & field and Lydia Morris-Kliment of Swarthmore women's outdoor track & field each earned weekly awards for at least the second time this spring.

BASEBALL

Player of the Week

Joey Hubinger, Gr., INF, McDaniel 
West Milford, N.J. | West Milford 
Hubinger hit .500 in four games last week as McDaniel went 4-0 to secure its first appearance in the Centennial Conference Baseball Championship since 2016. In four starts, he was 7-for-14 with two doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs. He had a 1.286 slugging percentage and .667 on-base percentage.

Pitcher of the Week
Cole Eggleston, Gr., LHP, Johns Hopkins 
Phoenixville, Pa. | Phoenixville Area
Eggleston had his best outing of the season in his lone appearance of the week against Gettysburg. Entering in the third inning, the graduate student tossed a season-high four shutout innings, allowing just three hits and fanning three more en route to the win that clinched the Jays the top seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament.

SOFTBALL

Player of the Week

Sophia Cicchetti, Sr., OF, Muhlenberg
Long Hill, N.J. | Watchung Hills Regional
Cicchetti hit .588 with eight runs scored, three RBIs and a .941 slugging percentage as Muhlenberg went 3-1 to clinch the fourth seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs. She was 7-for-11 with six runs scored and four extra-base hits in the doubleheader sweep of McDaniel, breaking the school record for hits in a season, which had stood at 60 since 1999, tying her own school record for triples in a season (7) and game (2), breaking the school record for triples in a career (14) and tying the CC mark for stolen bases in a season (41).

Pitcher of the Week
Paige Forry, Jr., LHP, Gettysburg
Reading, Pa. | Schuylkill Valley
Forry went 2-0 in the circle to lead the Bullets to a 5-0 week and the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. She threw 13.0 innings with 13 strikeouts and just four walks, posting a 0.54 ERA.

MEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Cam Carrigan, So., A, Washington College
Jarrettsville, Md. | John Carroll 
Carrigan scored a game-high six points, also a career-best, on three goals and three assists in the Shoremen's 18-14 win over visiting #20 Gettysburg on Saturday as the Shoremen clinched their first spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament in nine years.  Carrigan scored all three goals in the first quarter in helping WC race out to a 7-4 lead after one.  The sophomore assisted on what proved to be the game-winning goal with 13:57 left in the fourth quarter that gave Washington a 15-10 advantage.

Defensive Player of the Week
Stephen Krug, Sr., GK, Muhlenberg
Katonah, N.Y. | Iona Prep
Krug made a career-high 18 saves in the Mules' 14-9 non-conference win against Stockton. He recorded 15 of his stops in the final three periods, when Muhlenberg was outshot by a 42-23 margin, including a pair after the Ospreys had cut an eight-goal deficit to three in the fourth quarter.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Mia Salvatierra, So., A, Washington College
Bel Air, Md. | Fallston
Salvatierra tallied nine goals and three assists for 12 points in a 2-0 week for the Shorewomen as the squad clinched their 12th straight trip to the Centennial Conference Tournament, a school record for teams that must qualify for the conference tournament and 15th overall.  On Saturday in an 18-14 win at McDaniel, she tallied a career-best eight points on five goals and three assists with the three helpers and eight points leading all participants.  The sophomore assisted on the goal that put Washington College ahead for good on a Valerie Rock goal with 1:59 to go to give the Shorewomen a 13-12 advantage.  After the Green Terror cut the lead to 16-14 in the fourth, she factored in on the team's last two goals with a helper and score respectively in a 28-second span to put WC up 18-14. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Berkeley Heights, N.J. | Governor Livingston
Paprocki's defensive presence helped the Fords record a 2-0 week to cap off the 2024 regular season. In a 22-12 win against Moravian, Paprocki caused three turnovers and collected two ground balls, before causing two turnovers and scooping up two ground balls in the 9-7 season finale victory over Swarthmore.

Westport, Conn. | Staples 
Brodsky had a tremendous showing in F&M's match against No. 10 Swarthmore. Ranked sixth in singles for Region III, Brodsky beat his opponent in the No. 1 match in three sets - taking down third-ranked in the region Max Lindstrom.

Diaz was a perfect 4-0 on the week to help the 36th-ranked Garnet secure the third seed in the Centennial Tournament. She teamed with Erica Stutz for an 8-3 win at first doubles before earning the victory at first singles, 6-3, 7-5, at Bryn Mawr. Diaz dropped down to third doubles at Franklin and Marshall and partnered with Kathleen Shiffer for a dominant 8-0 triumph. Diaz then cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles against the Diplomats.

Leblond impressed in his lone race this weekend, finishing 14th in the steeplechase at the Penn Relays. The sophomore's time of 8:59.23 is the fastest in program history and ranks as the 11th-quickest time in Division III this season.

Field Athlete of the Week
Tom Wood, Jr., Ursinus 
Warrington, Pa. | Central Bucks South
Wood recorded a personal best throw in the shot put and the second longest throw this season at the TCNJ Lions Invitational on Saturday. Wood placed second overall and first among Division III throwers in the event with his mark 15.61 meters that was tops for the Centennial during the week for the shot put. Wood also tallied a throw of 42.60 meters in the hammer throw on Friday at TCNJ.

Huang was the driving force in a pair of record-breaking relays for the Blue Jays at this weekend's Penn Relays. The junior was first a part of the 4x400 team that finished first and set an event-record time of 3:51.81 before ending her weekend as a part of the 4x800 team that set a program and Centennial Conference record with their time of 8:57.87. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Lydia Morris-Kliment, So., Swarthmore 
Needham, Mass. | Winsor School 
Morris-Kliment won the discus with a career-best toss of 141' 9" (43.20m) to lead the Garnet at the Lions Invitational on Saturday. It was her third win in the event this season. She currently leads the conference in the event and ranks 31st in the nation.
