Athletes of the Week: Jan. 20-26

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The regular season continues on for Centennial Conference winter sports as we approach February and the beginning of conference championship season. Several wrestling teams opened up the conference dual season this past week, basketball is in the thick of conference play, and the swimming conference dual season will wind down next weekend. 

Trevor Wall of Ursinus men's basketball leads this week's honorees with his conference-leading fourth weekly award of the 2024-25 campaign, while Mitchell Davis of Ursinus men's track & field repeated as Field Athlete of the Week. Davis, Annie Huang of Johns Hopkins women's track & field, the JHU men's distance medley relay team of Aidan Tomov, Fisayo Omonije, Evan Kelly and Rowan Cassidy and Rainah Dunham of Ursinus women's track & field posted some of the top marks in the nation en route to weekly awards.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Trevor Wall, Sr., G, Ursinus
North Wales, Pa. | St. Joseph's Prep
Wall averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 50% (16-of-32) from the floor and knocked down an eventual game-winning basket to lead the Bears to a 2-0 week. He began the week with 21 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the Bears' 85-77 win over Muhlenberg on Wednesday night. Wall followed that performance with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting which included the eventual game-winning basket in the final two minutes in a 62-61 win at McDaniel.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Lizzie Neville, Jr., G, Franklin & Marshall
Waverly, Pa. | Scranton Prep
Neville tallied a career-high scoring night and averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Diplomats. In a 77-69 victory at Ursinus, Neville scored career-high 27 points while also recording five rebounds and four steals. The junior followed up that performance by scoring 14 points with four rebounds and three steals in the 57-50 home win over Dickinson. Neville also went a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line to improve her CC-leading free throw percentage to 85.7 percent. For the week, Neville shot an efficient 50 percent (15-of-30) from the field.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Ham Williams-Tracy, Sr., Swarthmore
Charlotte, N.C. | Myers Park
Williams-Tracy was a winner in all three events he competed in to help the Garnet defeat Rowan on the road, 175-87. The senior picked up wins in both the 200 (1:44.06) and 500 (4:43.92) freestyle. His time in the 200 was a season best. Williams-Tracy also swam the second leg of Swarthmore's 200 freestyle relay that came in first place (1:24.15).

Athlete of the Week
Genine Collins, So., Swarthmore

Collins picked up two individual victories, a relay win, and was on a runner-up relay as the No. 10 Garnet swept a tri-meet against Rowan and Kean. The sophomore was the winner in both the 100 freestyle (52.00) and 100 butterfly (57.38). She swam leadoff for Swarthmore's 200 freestyle relay and helped the Garnet take first place (1:36.41). Collins also swam the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay in which the Garnet finished second (1:48.30).

Athlete of the Week
Joey Lamparelli, Gr., 125, Muhlenberg
Allentown N.J. | Allentown 
Lamparelli went 3-0 with two wins against regionally ranked opponents at the John Reese Duals. After recording a 13-4 major decision against the eighth-ranked 125-pounder in Region 2 in the Oneonta match, he held his Ithaca opponent, the third-ranked wrestler in that region, without a point in a 5-0 decision. Lamaprelli picked up a forfeit win against Keystone to complete the 3-0 day and move into a tie for fourth place on the program's all-time list with 94 career wins.

Track Athlete of the Week
Distance Medley Relay, Johns Hopkins
The Blue Jay Distance Medley Relay Team of Aidan Tomov, Fisayo Omonije, Evan Kelly and Rowan Cassidy jumped to the top of the national rankings in the event with a time of 10:10.85 at the Dr. Sander Scorcher at the New York Armory. The team's adjusted time when accounting for a banked track is 10:19.16, which is more than four seconds faster than the nation's second-best time through events of January 26.

Field Athlete of the Week
Mitchell Davis, Fr., Ursinus 
Bethlehem, Pa. | Saucon Valley 
Davis repeated as Field Athlete of the Week after breaking his own school pole vault record that he set just six days prior. Davis posted a mark of 4.90 at Franklin & Marshall's Coach I Open on Saturday, a mark that ranks third all-time in the Centennial Conference and is tied for seventh in the nation this season.

Track Athlete of the Week
Annie Huang, Sr., Johns Hopkins
Austin, Texas | Westlake

Huang turned in the nation's top time in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.41 at the Dr. Sander Scorcher at the Armory in New York.  Her adjusted time when accounting for a banked track is 2:10.90, which is just under two seconds faster than the next best time in the nation in the event this season. Huang's time ranks second on the Centennial all-time list. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Rainah Dunham, Sr., Ursinus
Phoenixville, Pa. | Methacton
Dunham broke two of her own school records and posted two of the top marks in Centennial Conference history in the long jump and triple jump at Widener's Winter Evening Invite on Friday. Dunham started the night by cruising to a win in the long jump by recording a mark of 5.83 meters, which ranks third all-time in CC history and third in Division III this winter. Dunham followed that with a 12.50 meter mark in the triple jump, which is second all-time in conference history and second on the Division III performance list. It was Dunham's first jumps action since winning the Division III Outdoor National Championship in the long jump back in May and easily hit NCAA Indoor Championship qualifying marks with her totals.
