Athletes of the Week: Jan. 12-18

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference weekly awards have been announced for the week of Jan. 12-18 in basketball, swimming, indoor track & field and wrestling. This marks the first weekly awards of 2026 for swimming and indoor track & field. 

Erika Ezumba of Johns Hopkins women's indoor track & field broke her own conference record in the weight throw, Mohamed Abdelatty of Ursinus wrestling earned his second weekly accolade of the season, while Jenny Briggs of Bryn Mawr women's basketball led the Owls to their first conference win since 2008.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Peter Stanton-Shepherd, Jr., F, Muhlenberg
Rockville, Md. | Wootton 
Stanton-Shepherd recorded double-doubles in both games, averaging 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. He scored eight points in the first five-plus minutes against Washington College, helping to stake the Mules to an early lead that they never lost in a 72-60 win. He finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Stanton-Shepherd also put up 18 points and 10 boards in a one-point overtime loss at Swarthmore. For the week, he shot 52% from the field, including 55.6% from three-point range, and added an assist, three steals and a block.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Jenny Briggs, Fr., G, Bryn Mawr 
Waxhaw, N.C. | Marvin Ridge
Briggs delivered a standout performance to lead Bryn Mawr to its first Centennial Conference victory since 2008 in Wednesday's 73–68 overtime win against Washington College. Briggs poured in a career-high 26 points, including seven three-pointers, to finish as the game’s leading scorer. Her shooting helped fuel a dramatic comeback, as the Owls rallied from a 28–19 halftime deficit to score 54 points across the second half and overtime en route to the historic win. Briggs also contributed three assists and three rebounds.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Avery Clapp, Sr., Johns Hopkins 
Cincinnati, Ohio | Sycamore
Clapp recorded two of the top backstroke times in Centennial history during JHU's dual meet victory over Swarthmore last Friday. The senior won the 100 backstroke in 48.98 seconds and the 200 backstroke in 1:47.60. His 200 time ranks fourth all-time in the CC and 15th in Division III this season, while his 100 time is fifth all-time in the CC and 18th on the national list. Clapp also contributed to winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays in the dual meet victory.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Genine Collins, Jr., Swarthmore 
Stewartsville, N.J. | Phillipsburg 
Collins was a winner in all four events in which she competed to lead the 15th-ranked Garnet to a thrilling 134-128 victory at 19th-ranked Johns Hopkins. The junior earned wins in the 50 freestyle (23.03), setting a new pool record, and 100 freestyle (51.62). She also anchored the victorious 200 medley relay (1:44.50), out-touching the Blue Jays by just two-tenths of a second, and was on the first-place 400 free relay (3:28.61). Swarthmore took down Hopkins for the second straight season while capturing its 46th consecutive head-to-head win and 43rd straight victory over a conference opponent.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Track Athlete of the Week
Simon Lane, Fr., Haverford 
Chicago, Ill. | University of Chicago Laboratory Schools 
Lane delivered a standout performance in the 3,000 meters on Friday at the Ramapo Invitational, winning the event with a time of 8:19.60. The first-year's effort ranks 13th in Division III and ninth in Haverford history. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Jory Lee, Sr., Haverford 
New York, N.Y. | Math, Science & Engineering 
Lee registered the fourth-best triple jump in Centennial Conference history at the Ramapo Invitational on Friday morning. Lee placed third with a personal-best mark of 14.46 meters, which ranks 14th in Division III this season and second on Haverford's all-time list. The mark surpassed his previous best of 14.25 meters.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Track Athlete of the Week
Lauren Dunnigan, Jr., Franklin & Marshall 
Waldwick, N.J. | Immaculate Heart Academy
Dunnigan won the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and 60-meter hurdles to start her spring semester at the Kaye & JJ Smith Invitational. Dunnigan's 60 dash time of 7.75 seconds broke her own school record and ranks 18th in Division III this winter. She completed the 200 meters in 26.56 seconds, which ranks second in F&M history. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Erika Ezumba, Sr., Johns Hopkins
Owings Mills, Md. | Notre Dame Preparatory 
Ezumba broke her own Centennial and Hopkins records in the weight throw and posted one of the top shot put marks in conference history to lead the Blue Jays to a team title at the Cardinal Track and Field Classic. Ezumba rewrote both the CC and JHU record books in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 17.60 meters, the fourth-best performance in Division III this season. Her throw earned a second-place finish and surpassed her previous conference and school record of 17.33 meters by nearly 0.30 meters. She added an event victory in the shot put, recording a personal-best mark of 13.45 meters, which ranks as the sixth-farthest throw in CC history, the second-farthest throw in program history, and the ninth-best mark nationally this season.

WRESTLING 

Athlete of the Week
Mohamed Abdelatty, Jr., 285, Ursinus 
Lawrence, N.J. | Lawrence 
Abdelatty led Ursinus to the team title at the Will Abele Invitational behind a perfect 5-0 record, with all five victories coming by fall or technical fall. He opened with a pin at the 1:02-mark over Alfred State's Colton Hal, and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 27-second pin over Nassau's Ernesto Cordova. After a pin at the 1:04-mark in the quarterfinals, Abdelatty tallied a 16-1 tech fall in the semifinals and defeated Norwich's Rory Nolan by a 17-2 technical fall to win the 285-pound bracket. He is currently ranked 11th in the country by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
