Athletes of the Week: Jan. 22-28

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Six of this week's nine award winners received weekly honors for at least the second time this winter as we approach the end of January for the Centennial Conference sports of basketball, swimming, indoor track & field and wrestling. 

With the start of February now on the horizon, winter championship season is on the cusp of beginning with regular season action heating up. The CC wrestling championships will open up the winter championship season, with McDaniel hosting the six-team championship on Saturday, Feb. 10. 

This week's honorees who now have won multiple awards this season include John Windley of Johns Hopkins men's basketball, Danny Castle of Swarthmore men's swimming Genine Collins of Swarthmore women's swimming, Aiden Tobin of Ursinus men's track & field, Ethan Hart of Dickinson men's track & field, and Victoria Kadiri of Johns Hopkins women's indoor track & field. Tobin and Kadiri set new conference records this past weekend.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week

John Windley, Jr., G, Johns Hopkins 
Brentwood, Tenn. | Brentwood 
Windley led Johns Hopkins to a 3-0 week, including a pair of road wins, with 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 58.3% from the field, including 58.8%  from downtown, for the week. Windley opened the week with 17 points, eight rebounds, one assist and two steals in a 72-56 win at Mary Washington. He then scored 20 points, going 8-of-11 from the field, and 3-of-4 from three, to go with seven rebounds, four assists and one block in a 13-point win over McDaniel. Windley closed the week by scoring a career-high 26 points, while also grabbing five rebounds, handing out two assists and swiping two steals in a 83-70 win at Ursinus.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Alayna Arnolie, So., G, Gettysburg 
Vienna, Va. | James Madison
Arnolie led the Bullets to a 2-0 week, averaging 18.5 points per game while playing just 27 minutes per game. She shot 56% (14-of-25) from the floor, including 50% (7-of-14) from beyond the arc. She scored 16 points in 31 minutes at Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday before matching her season best with 21 points in just 23 minutes against Swarthmore on Saturday. Arnolie also added five rebounds, five assists, three steals and a blocked shot.

Athlete of the Week

Danny Castle, Fr., Swarthmore 
Highland Park, Ill. | Highland Park 
Castle tallied four victories as the Garnet took down No. 21 Rowan on Saturday. The rookie placed first in the 100 freestyle (46.48) and 200 freestyle (1:41.71), while also earning victories as a member of the 200 medley relay (1:31.39) and 400 freestyle relay (3:07.24). Castle's time in the 200 freestyle ranks seventh all-time in program history.

Athlete of the Week

Genine Collins, Fr., Swarthmore 
Stewartsville, N.J. | Phillipsburg
Collins combined for three victories in a pair of wins over Kean and Rowan. Collins placed first in the 50 freestyle (24.14) and 100 butterfly (57.91), while also earning a top finish as a member of the 200 medley relay (1:46.94).

Chris Roybal, Sr., 174, Johns Hopkins 
Ellicott City, Md. | Mount St. Joseph 
Roybal went 2-1 to lead the Blue Jays in three Centennial Conference duals.  He scored a 7-0 victory against Merchant Marine, then added a 10-5 win over Muhlenberg's Anson Dewar, who is the reigning Centennial Conference champion at 174. Dewar entered the match ranked eighth in the nation and was unbeaten on the year prior to facing Roybal.

Track Athlete of the Week

Aiden Tobin, So., Ursinus 
Coopersburg, Pa. | Southern Lehigh
Tobin reset the Centennial Conference record and his one-month-old Ursinus school record in 200 meters at the George Mason Patriot Games on Saturday. The sophomore crossed in 22.07 to take second place in the race and top the previous CC record of 22.15 that was held by Franklin & Marshall's Evan Friend since 2016. Tobin now sits first in the Centennial and second in the Metro Region in the 200 this indoor season. Tobin also helped lead the Ursinus 4x400 relay team to victory on their time of 3:19.39 behind his split time of 49.78.
 
Field Athlete of the Week
Ethan Hart, Sr., Dickinson 
New Market, Md. | Linganore 
Hart defeated 31 competitors, including 11 from Division I, in the shot put at the Bucknell Bison Open. Hart's top toss of 16.85 meters bested Andrew Mott of York (Pa.) (16.52m) for the title. Hart's mark measured more than a foot longer than the best throw from a Division I athlete as Bucknell's Wade Shomper posted a 15.81m. Hart currently holds the seventh and eighth best tosses in the nation this winter.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Track Athlete of the Week

Sara Stephenson, Gr., Johns Hopkins 
Weston, Mass. | The Rivers School 
Stephenson took home first in the 5,000 meters on day two of last weekend's George Mason Patriot Games. The graduate student crossed the line in 16:58.93, a time that was just over 54 seconds quicker than the next finisher and currently ranks as the eighth-fastest time in Division III. That time also ranks sixth on the CC all-time performance list. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Victoria Kadiri, Sr., Johns Hopkins 
Lynn, Mass. | Phillips Academy 
Kadiri repeated as Field Athlete of the Week after setting new Centennial Conference and Johns Hopkins records in the pentathlon at the George Mason Patriot Games. Kadiri posted a point total of 3610, which ranks third in Division III this season. The senior won four of the first five events in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and long jump before finishing fourth in the 800-meter to take first overall in the event by over 600 points.
