Athletes of the Week: Feb. 16-22

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference weekly awards have been announced for the week of Feb. 16-22 in basketball, indoor track & field, baseball, lacrosse and tennis. This marks the first weekly awards of the year for baseball and the final award of the year for basketball and indoor track & field.  

Noah Sanders of Ursinus men's track & field broke the CC weight throw record for the third straight week, Trevor Richwine of Dickinson men's track & field ran the second-fastest 800 in conference history, and Charlie Jackson of Johns Hopkins men's basketball produced one of the highest individual-scoring games in conference history to headline this week's honors.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Charlie Jackson, Sr., G, Johns Hopkins

Jackson led Johns Hopkins to a pair of road wins as the Blue Jays locked up the number two seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs. He averaged 34.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 56% (19-for-34) from the field and 90% (28-of-31) from the free throw line. Jackson scored 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds to go with one assist, two blocks and one steal in the win at Swarthmore. He followed that with a 43 points, one shy of the school record and tied for fifth-most in CC history, and 14 rebounds in the win at Dickinson. He notched his 1,000th career point and broke the school single-game record with 20 made free throws.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Kaitlyn Boggs, Sr., C, Washington College

Boggs averaged 23 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 62.5% from the floor in a 2-0 week for the Shorewomen as they clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament for the fifth straight season. In Saturday's 58-55 win at Ursinus to seal the bid, the senior snapped a 51-51 tie with a traditional three-point play after grabbing an offensive rebound and converting the layup while drawing the foul. That play put Washington ahead for good. Boggs led all players with 24 points, while pulling down nine rebounds and netting two blocks and two steals. She also drained a career-best 10 foul shots in the victory. In Wednesday's 52-41 victory over visiting Haverford, the senior recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 22 points and 13 boards to go along with three blocks.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Track Athlete of the Week
Trevor Richwine, Sr., Dickinson 
Newville, Pa. | Big Spring 
Richwine ran the second-fastest 800 meters in Centennial Conference history at the Penn State Tune-Up, breaking his own Dickinson school record that he set at last year's NCAA Championship. The senior finished in 1:50.30 to win the race against a strong field featuring a number of Division I and II competitors. Richwine's time ranks third in Division III this season. 

Field Athlete of the Week

Haddonfield, N.J. | Camden Catholic 
Sanders earned Field Athlete of the Week for the third straight week after setting Centennial Conference and school records in the weight throw for the third straight week. Sanders recorded a throw of 18.13 meters at the Keogh Invitational, which ranks 24th in Division III.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Track Athlete of the Week
Lauren Dunnigan, Jr., Franklin & Marshall 
Waldlick, N.J. | Immaculate Heart Academy 
Dunnigan reset two of her own school records and ran the fourth-fastest 60-meter dash in Centennial history at Cornell's Denault Invitational on Saturday Her school record times came in the 60 meter (7.67) and 200 meter (26.01) dashes. She is currently ranked 19th in the country and second in the CC this season for the 60. Dunnigan capped her day with a 10th place finish in the 60 meter hurdles (9.10 seconds).

Field Athlete of the Week
Taniya Denson, Fr., Haverford 
Monroeville, Pa. | Gateway 
Denson broke her own school record and posted the 10th-best pole vault mark in Centennial Conference history at the Keogh Invitational on Friday evening. Denson cleared a mark of 3.40 meters to take first place, surpassing her previous program record of 3.20.

BASEBALL

Player of the Week

Bock powered the Blue Jays to a 2-1 start to the 2026 campaign, making an immediate impact as the team’s designated hitter. Through three games, he led the team at the plate, going 7-of-12 (.583) with four extra-base hits — three doubles and a home run — while drawing a walk, driving in seven runs, scoring six times and compiling an impressive 1.698 OPS. In a 5-4 ranked win over No. 29/RV Baldwin Wallace, Bock delivered one of his strongest performances of the weekend, going 3-of-4 with three RBIs. His two-run home run provided a key spark, and his RBI single ultimately stood as the game-winning hit.

Pitcher of the Week
Steven Jungers, Sr., RHP, Swarthmore
Great Falls, Va. | Gonzaga College 
Jungers had an impressive outing to earn the win on the mound for the Garnet in game two of a doubleheader versus Pfeiffer. He tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief, recording all nine outs via strikeout. The senior conceded two hits and walked one but stranded all three baserunners, allowing the Swarthmore offense to take a late lead for the 5-2 win.

MEN'S LACROSSE 

Offensive Player of the Week
Clay Almgren, Sr., A/M, Swarthmore

Almgren posted back-to-back career days to lead the 18th-ranked Garnet to a pair of victories. The senior totaled 11 goals, seven assists, 18 points, eight ground balls, and one caused turnover over the two contests. He opened the week with a career-high seven goals in Swarthmore's 16-7 win at Eastern. Almgren then topped the effort with a career-best 11 points on four goals and seven assists in another 16-7 victory versus Messiah. The performance included his 200th career point, becoming just the fourth player in program history to reach the milestone. Almgren currently ranks in the top-20 in Division III in assists per game, goals per game, and points per game.

Defensive Player of the Week
Mac Broaddus, So., GK, Haverford
Larchmont, N.Y. | Hackley 
Broaddus played an essential role this past week as the Fords went 2-0, totaling 26 saves, a .703 save percentage, and a 5.50 goals against average. On Wednesday, Broaddus made seven saves on 36 shots faced, while also causing a turnover and scooping up a ground ball in a 13-9 win over Arcadia. On Saturday, the sophomore turned in a career performance, making a career-high 19 saves and collecting four ground balls in a dominant 11-2 victory over Catholic.

Offensive Player of the Week

Evans tallied a game-best seven points on five goals and two assists along with three ground balls and two caused turnovers in a14-10 win at Stevenson on Saturday. The senior factored into the first three goals of the game with one score and two helpers. She helped ignite the team's 8-0 third quarter, which saw Washington turn a 6-5 deficit into a 13-6 advantage, with the first goal to tie the game at 6-6. Evans added two more goals in the stanza to give her three in the third. She capped the team's scoring with a down goal in the fourth quarter off of a caused turnover and ground ball by Evans.

Defensive Player of the Week
Abby Burkholder, Sr., D, Ursinus
Etters, Pa. | Red Land 
Burkholder led the Bears defense in a 14-4 victory over Moravian, limiting the Greyhounds to just nine shots on goal. Burkholder forced two turnovers and earned five ground balls to power the Bears.

MEN'S TENNIS

Player of the Week
Michael Melnikov, Sr., Swarthmore
Karlsruhe, Germany | Markgarden Gymnasium 
Melnikov went unbeaten during the eighth-ranked Garnet's run at the ITA Indoor National Championship, going 5-0 as Swarthmore finished seventh in the tournament. He defeated the reigning NCAA national singles champion from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a thrilling 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), 6-4 decision. He also picked up a 6-4 doubles win versus the 4th-ranked Stags. Melnikov cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 top singles victory against 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins and added a 7-6 (7-5) doubles triumph. The senior ended the weekend with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win versus 21st-ranked Gustavus Adolphus.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Player of the Week
Ella Strickler, Jr., Swarthmore 
Chapel Hill, N.C. | Carrboro 
Strickler went 3-1 over a pair of matches for the 22nd-ranked Garnet against top competition at Washington and Lee's Groundhog Palooza. She was victorious in doubles against the host Generals with a 7-5 decision before suffering a tough 6-7 (3-7), 4-6 loss in singles play. Strickler won both of her matches in the team's 5-2 win versus 25th-ranked Christopher Newport. She came out on top in doubles with a dominant 6-0 victory and claimed her singles bout, 6-4, 6-2.
