Athletes of the Week: Jan. 27-Feb. 2

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The winter seasons continue to heat up as the calendar flips to February and championship season quickly approaches. The conference dual meet schedule has now concluded in swimming, while wrestling enters its final streth of conference duals this week. 

Headlining this week's honorees is Mitchell Davis of Ursinus men's track & field, who broke his own school record in the pole vault for the third week in a row. Davis also registered the second-best mark in Centennial history. Danny Castle of Swarthmore men's swimming and Triya Roy of Johns Hopkins women's track & field each garnered their second weekly award of the year.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
John Windley, Sr., G, Johns Hopkins
Brentwood, Tenn. | Brentwood 
Windley led Johns Hopkins to three wins last week, including a pair of conference decisions. He averaged 16.7 points while shooting 62.1% from the field and a blistering 65% from three-point range. He also averaged 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the three wins. Windley opened the week with 16 points, five rebounds and two assists in a non-conference win over Mary Washington Monday. He followed that with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal in a win at Dickinson. Windley capped the week with 25 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal in a win over Haverford. He was named the Wall-O'Mahony Game MVP for his performance against the Fords.

Auburndale, Mass. | Newton North
O'Neil helped the Blue Jays extend their winning streak to seven games as she averaged 17.5 points, seven rebounds and five blocks in a 2-0 week for Johns Hopkins. She punched up a career-high 22 points and added 11 rebounds and seven blocks in an overtime win at Dickinson and contributed 13 points, three rebounds and three blocks in just 22 minutes in a win at Haverford.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Danny Castle, So., Swarthmore
Highland Park, Ill. | Highland Park
Castle totaled three victories in a win over Franklin & Marshall. The sophomore touched first in the 100 IM (53.65) and went on to win the 100 backstroke (52.78). He was also a member of the first-place 200 medley relay (1:33.60).

St. Louis, Mo. | Parkway West
Rutkowski posted a pair of victories against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The freshman finished first overall in the 50 butterfly (26.52) and 100 butterfly (58.96). The Garnet (10-0, 7-0 Centennial) went undefeated in dual meets for the fourth consecutive season. Swarthmore recorded its 39th straight head-to-head victory and its 38th in a row against conference opponents.

Athlete of the Week
Andrew Schaen, So., 141, Ursinus
Harbeson, Del. | Cape Henlopen
Schaen picked up a pair of victories leading Ursinus to a perfect 2-0 record in dual meet victories over Delaware Valley (28-13) and Gettysburg College (25-14). On Thursday, Schaen defeated Delaware Valley's Ryan Arndt, a two-time Southeast Regional place-winner, via a 5-4 decision en route to a 28-13 victory over the Aggies. On Friday Schaen earned a 14-5 major decision over Gettysburg's Brendan Callahan, ranked seventh in Region III, to help the Bears defeat the Bullets, 25-14.

Track Athlete of the Week
Reza Eshghi, Sr., Haverford
Lincoln, Mass. | Concord Academy 
Eshghi ran the fifth-fastest mile time in Division III this season en route to a first-place finish at the Seam McElligott Invitational. Competing in a crowded field of 40 runners, Eshghi darted to a time of 4:11.53 to claim the first place crown. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Mitchell Davis, Fr., Ursinus 
Bethlehem, Pa. | Saucon Valley 
Davis three-peated as Field Athlete of the Week after once again breaking his own school pole vault record at the Rutgers Scarlet Knight Open on Friday. This time he cleared the bar at 4.94 meters to finish as the top Division III athlete in the event. Davis now holds the eighth-best pole vault mark this season in Division III and the second-best mark in Centennial history.

Track Athlete of the Week
Triya Roy, Gr., Johns Hopkins
Cupertino, Calif. | Monta Vista

Roy was the top college finisher in the 5000 meters at George Mason's Patriot Games. Roy clocked in at 17:25.17 to finish second overall and first among the 22 collegians in the field. Her time currently ranks 18th in the nation.

Jaclyn Donoho, Jr., Johns Hopkins
Evergreen, Colo. | Evergreen 
Donoho posted a personal-best mark in the high jump with a leap of 1.61 meters while competing in the Pentathlon at George Mason's Patriot Games. Her mark was the best in the event as part of the pentathlon and currently ranks second in the Centennial Conference this season. In addition, the jump is tied for the fourth-best mark in program history and is just .01-meters shy of the school record.
